Blue Windows

Blue Windows
39"x 39"

It is rather nice to have small projects to work on.  When I am juggling multiple projects, it is rewarding to have some sense of completion!  And so, I introduce to you this little quilt, about the size of a baby quilt.  Simply pieced, simply quilted in one long spiral.  I also pieced a lovely back for it.  You have seen this one before on this post (it is near the bottom, and the orientation is flipped)!
And there is nothing quite like the light of an overcast day to make your quilting stitches and the colors pop!

Meanwhile, I have had a number of projects in the hopper which are near and dear to my heart.  The finished works are not supposed to be shown yet.  The two exhibits are both through SAQA; one is Radical Elements, and the other is Earth Stories.  I will be telling you a lot more about both of these projects in the weeks and months to come.  For now I will tell you that it is such a huge honor to be selected for these exhibits.  It is a first for me to be juried into an exhibit that I get to make new work for.  Very exciting, and hoping to live up to expectations!

Quilting Arts Magazine

Quilting Arts Magazine

Good morning!  I am so excited to tell you that I have been published in the following Quilting Arts issue!  My article is about my quilt, Fresh Plus, which you have seen here, and won an Honorable Mention at QuiltCon.  In the article, I give directions on how to make the little window blocks used in this quilt.

Also, my good friend Jamie Fingal is the cover girl!  I have loved her work for years and am delighted to see it showcased here.  Kudos Jamie!

Here are some close ups of my little quilt, Fresh Plus.

New Quilt and Etsy Store

New Quilt and Etsy Store

Speaking of pillows, I posted a few new listings in my Etsy store (shop has been closed) not too long ago.
These two sparkling gems....

I just happened to notice that one of my favorite items in the store had not sold yet, two sets of individually batiked window blocks, in the warm color palette, below (see other quilts with these blocks, here and here).  And, I promised myself that if they did NOT sell, I would remove them from the store and use them myself....which is exactly what happened.  And, I am sorry if no one else got to use them, but I would definitely be happy to make some more if asked!  :)
Here's what I did to them.  First, I auditioned some fabrics to go with them.

I couldn't decide, so I knew it wasn't quite right.  Then I decided to chop them up and sew them back together.  And I added a few blocks of solid colors, red, pink and white. It was fun!  It was fast!  And it was EASY!  That is not usually a word I use too much, as my brain tends to seek out the difficult.
But, back to the topic at hand.  I love this new construction so much, that I find myself sitting and staring at it.  I know it still needs to be quilted, but I just want to look at it, mesmerized by the movement and pretty colors.
Enjoy!  and thanks for stopping by!
