Urban Landscapes

Urban Landscapes leggings for the trees I love taking geometric and regular shapes and turning them into an organic shape. It's unexpected and wonderful! Maybe that's why I wrapped my trees in Urban Landscape. Or maybe to announce to my neighbors my new fabric line (as many stopped while I was working to comment!). Maybe I have been inspired by Christo? There is plethora of tree art in Austin that also resides in my subconscious. Maybe all of the above? I'm not sure, but I knew I wanted to try this idea before I cut into my stash.....well except for those curtains I made for my daughter (see previous post). This just looks so stinking cool!! And don't you wish you could put some on your trees? Or....all over the trees in a downtown area??? That would look super cool! If you are in the neighborhood, drive by, this isn't staying up long, probably not even overnight, but at least we will have the photos to look at! If you want to buy some of these lovely bright happy fabrics, you might want to hurry. I think my mom is trying to buy it ALL! lol!

Yes, the fabric is wonderful and makes me so happy to work with it. Almost as wonderful as the artist, my daughter.

I so want to do this, but it would probably cause cardiac arrest among the HOA board of directors. The neighbors would be up in arms. Love, love, love the look!

love this. have you seen this blog:
http://wraptrees.blogspot.com/ some of us are wrapping trees to dye fabric (eco-dyeing). we plan on leaving them wrapped for about 6 months. some of mine have already shown changes.
when my neighbor first spotted the wrapped trees she thought her 5 year old had wrapped the tree with toilet paper.

Well, rats! I was in your neighborhood today, before I knew! I would definitely have come by. I saw your street and thought of you. Guess that was my subconscious trying to get me to detour, but of course I was already late.

Ah, I already took it down. I didn't want sun damage because I plan to cut up my fabric and sew some neat stuff with it (not that the tree leggings weren't neato, but...). Anyway, the squirrels in my neighborhood are BAD. They would have ripped it to shreds. So, I pulled it down.

wow, that is really great! While I was in college, we wrapped trees in multi-colored survey tape and then took photos... it was amazingly fun. But your fabrics are so much cooler!!!

Kathy, this is so freaking awesome. Did you have it out in front-only? I bet it looked super-cool with your door as a backdrop. I wish I had been around to see it in real-time.
What a fantastic idea. I can't wait to show this to my oldest, who does guerrilla knitting in Philly.

Tim liked the pics, too!

This is great!! May I steal your idea and do this here in Milwaukee? I have a few trees in my front yard.... :)
Thanks, Kathy. Always inspiring!

Maybe with separating zippers next time so you put them on the trees for special occasions and then take them down!

I LOVE YOUR COLORS!!! Having had the privilege of seeing your work up close in the PAQA-South shows, your fabrics must be magnificent! And the trees...think you might have started something here. :D

Love it! my daughter thinks we need a park like this.

I love the way it looks, and you are right not to leave it up very long. It will eventually kill the tree to be so suffocated at its base, maybe not right away, but it's not healthy for the tree. Someone mentioned 6 months. Please don't do that unless you want to compromise the tree.

Ha ha - don't try it in Cape May, NJ. YOu'll get a summons for not having a permit.

What a wonderful and cheerful thing to do!

Oh Kathy! This is just way too cool! I have house trees made of branches wrapped together with cloth, and I have one that is a Eucalyptus tree branch that goes from floor to ceiling and it is wrapped with multicolored yarn, but this is the best I have seen! I am starting to look at all the trees around my neighborhood as potentials for art!!! This is just fantabulous!!!
